In June 1998, TD-SCDMA proposal was submitted to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) by Datang Group.
In May 2000, TD-SCDMA was approved by the ITU as one of the 3G mobile communications standards, which is regarded as a historic breakthrough in China’ s telecommunication industry for the past century.
On March 16, 2001, TD-SCDMA was officially accepted by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
In October 2002, China’ s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) announced 3G spectrum allocation scheme, in which a total of 155 MHz spectrum was allocated to TD-SCDMA standard.
In 2004, Chinese government organized MTNet test to verify the capability of TD-SCDMA system to be deployed as a standalone network.
In January 2005, TD-SCDMA Industrialization Special Test was launched by MII’ s China Academy of Telecom Research (CATR) to verify the commercial readiness of TD-SCDMA equipment.
In August 2005, the first TD-SCDMA repeater was released by Datang Group. Till now, Datang Mobile has first formed a complete TD-SCDMA solution for indoor and outdoor wireless coverage, featured by micro Node B, repeater and trunk amplifier.
In October 2005, Datang Mobile realized industry’ s first TD-SCDMA based High Speed Downlink Packet Access(HSDPA) service.
In January 2006, Chinese MII announced that it set the home-grown TD-SCDMA as the national technology standard for the telecom industry.
In February 2006, the Large-scale TD-SCDMA Network Application Trial project was rolled out in five Chinese cities. China Netcom operates the network in Beijing and Qingdao, China Telecom operates the network in Baoding and Shanghai, while China Mobile takes care of Xiamen trial network.
In April 2006, Datang Mobile released TD-SCDMA/GSM dual mode handset.
In January 2007, the Extended Large-scale TD-SCDMA Network Application Trial project was rolled out in ten Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
In April 2007, the first overseas TD-SCDMA trial network was put into operation by Korea’ s SK Telecom in Seoul. Datang Mobile provided the complete RAN product portfolio and relevant engineering services.
